Diffusion-aware voltage source: An equivalent circuit network to resolve lithium concentration gradients in active particles

Traditional equivalent circuit models (ECMs) have difficulties in estimating battery internal states due to the lack of relevant physics, such as lithium diffusion active particles. Here we configure a network describe and define it new high-level element called diffusion-aware voltage source. The representation is proven discretized equation. source gives electrode potential function surface concentration thus automatically incorporates overpotential. We show that an ECM with proposed sources (called "shell ECM") can reproduce single particle model simulation results, making trustworthy easy-to-implement substitute. Furthermore, simplest shell consisting resistor validated against experimental constant-current discharges at various rates. be used measure diffusivity by fitting resistance data. viability for onboard usage confirmed implementation into management system WAE Technologies. By tracking states, demonstrates robustness dynamic applied-current profiles.
